Description
Breaking new ground with its continual blooming habit and low maintenance characteristics, the non-stop, brilliant fuchsia to wine-red blooms of the Double Feature Crape Myrtle first appear in June and continue until the first heavy frost! In spring wine-red leaves emerge and transition to a lovely dark green background for the flowers. This reblooming shrub produces no seed capsules, reblooming on the same panicles. As a semi-dwarf that forms a dense perfect ball to only 6 to 8 feet in height and width that requires little to no pruning.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to 6-8 feet tall and wide, the Double Feature Red Crape Myrtle is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a colorful hedge in sunny landscape borders. It can be grown as a shrub or lower branches can be removed to form a very attractive small tree, making it an excellent choice for use as a specimen or accent in sunny home foundation plantings or large pots. This is one plant that is sure to stand out in your landscape!
Spacing: 6 feet apart for solid hedge; 9 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Crape Myrtle variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Double Feature Crape Myrtle is very easy to grow. It is not picky about soil type provided the soil is well-drained. A moist but well-drained soil of average fertility is preferred. Full sun is preferred and results in heavier flower production. Light shade is tolerated but flowering will be diminished in more shade. Has shown excellent resistance to powdery mildew and is quite drought tolerant when established.

We needed to replace our large tree with a smaller crepe myrtle. When it arrived we thought we would need to have it installed.
