Description
Exceptionally easy to grow and low maintenance, Burkwood is an attractive hybrid Viburnum that forms a densely-branched shrub or small tree prized for its intensely fragrant flowers and lustrous foliage. In spring, rounded semi snowball-shape clusters of pink buds open to white flowers that have a wonderful spicy sweet aroma to die for. Handsome dark green leaves are evergreen in southern zones 7 and 8 and semi-evergreen further north. All grown up, Burkwood can reach 8 to 10 feet tall and 5 to 7 feet wide which makes it a fine choice for an accent, hedge or screen. Lower branches can be removed to form a very attractive small tree. A virtual pest and disease free low maintenance beauty that is a fine addition to any landscape where it will grow. (USDA Zones 4-8)
Landscape & Garden Uses
With an upright habit 8 to 10 feet tall and 5 to 7 feet wide, the Burkwood Viburnum is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a hedge in landscape and flowering shrub borders. As this Viburnum grows taller, lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive small tree useful as a focal point specimen in landscape borders or home foundation plantings. Plant one near patios, decks, porches and other outdoor areas where the fragrance and beautiful flowers can be enjoyed from up close. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, white theme gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Burkwood Viburnum is very easy to grow in moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. We suggest 5 hours or more of direct sunlight for best flowering. It prefers a loamy soil so amend heavy clay or poor soils with compost, bagged top soil or other organic matter. As with so many other ornamental plants, it does not like constantly soggy or wet conditions. Established plants have good drought tolerance. Deer haven’t touched it in our gardens. Responds well to pruning for shaping, size control and tree forming. Prune as needed immediately after flowering.

I’m writing this review as the recipient of your product. My review is: AMAZING!!! This isn’t the only plant I’ve received from y’all. My brother sent me Daphne over a year ago. Thus far, everything has been exceptional. I wish I had a bigger yard/flower beds. I’m cram it full with your products. Thank you so much.———————————————————We are so glad you are pleased with your purchase! Thanks for the kind words and great review! Beth | WBG 🙂
The plants arrived! They had been well packaged with plenty of soil and moisture around the roots. Despite the fact that Fedex took 10 days to get them to me, they were still vibrant and ready to be planted.
So far, they continue to look healthy, though I don’t detect new growth yet. I’m sure it will come soon.
I have bought various plants by mail from three different nurseries this year, due to COVID. This is the only one I would buy from again. No comparison!!———————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

This Burkwood Viburnum is beautiful and full. A very healthy shrub that was much bigger than I expected. The order came very quick too, and was packaged wonderfully. The website was easy to navigate, which I appreciate, and the selection phenomenal. I’m so glad to have found this site, and over the moon to have found this variety as I’ve been searching for some time locally with no luck.—————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! I received the plant in early October for fall planting. It was fully leafed-out and looks very healthy, like something you’d get at a nursery in the spring. I’m optimistic that it will do well when it wakes up next April.————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come!
